The Caribbean Institute of Technology represents a community of some 6 thousand alumni across Jamaica and the world.
The Caribbean Institute of Technology Alumni Association (CITAA) was founded in 2004 to strengthen the relationship between alumni and the Institution. Central among the goals of the CITAA are:
- Strengthening relationships between alumni around the world and the Institution by offering graduates tangible opportunities for involvement in the life and support of CIT.
- Communicating the achievements and concerns of alumni to the Institution and to each other, and the accomplishments, aspirations and needs of the Institution to its alumni.
- Creating a worldwide network of alumni leaders willing and able to contribute to the continued advancement of the Institution, its students and its graduates.
The CITAA is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is includes representatives from the Institution’s Student Affairs Department, the CIT Student Council Body, and graduates of the Institution. The CITAA works collaboratively with the Students’ Affairs Office to implement programs and services for the benefit of the Institution’s alumni.
Job Shadowing
This program provides opportunities for students to determine whether they are suited for a career before making a final choice and investing their time and money in their careers.
It is anticipated that the Job Shadow Program will form part of a Alumni Career Network Initiative whereby each student shadows a graduate for a minimum of one day to observe the tasks involved in a particular position or job, the skills that are utilized on the job and the employee’s interactions with other workplace personnel. Job Shadowing provides opportunity for students to experience tasks in ‘real’ work environments.
The benefits to students are two-fold:
Job Shadowing is a useful tool in the career decision-making process
Students can discuss educational background and career preparation directly with CIT Alumni.
